“What would a 90's rave in Brazil have sounded like?”
This question was the starting point for DJ Beukeboom's ‘Rave Mixtape 3000’. The result is a mixtape CD with ten new songs by the producer from Amsterdam.

The Concept
A real house- and rave-revolution like we saw in Europe in the early 90s never really gained a foothold in Brazil. Party music in Brazil in the 90's was dominated by baile funk. A music movement that is at least as energetic and outspoken. Something that completely grabbed DJ Beukeboom when he heard it for the first time. However, he always remained curious what it would be like if the hypnotic and compelling of house & rave were added. The ‘Rave Mixtape 3000’ is a combination of two worlds; the European 90s house & rave sound and the baile funk sound from 90s Brazil.

The Proces
Besides the differences, baile funk and rave have many similarities. Both genres were created bottom up, by people with limited resources. It was most important that the music banged at the parties. Both movements also involve a lot of sampling and use of breakbeats in the production process. For the ‘Rave Mixtape 3000’ DJ Beukeboom took the same approach by cutting up samples and focusing on what it would sound like on a dance floor. Combining these two worlds then turned out to be quite natural. Instead of sampling old soul or other 'Western' tracks, the Amsterdam based producer used some of his favorite old Brazilian songs from Elis Regina, Azymuth and Luiz Carlos Vinhas, among others.

Mixtape CD's
The 'Rave Mixtape 3000' is the third and final mixtape CD by DJ Beukeboom. In 2018 his first mixtape CD was released with 9 of his own productions. During Covid in 2020, he turned to the car as the best place to listen to his music and released the 'Cruise Mixtape 2000'. He rounds off this mixtape-series with the 'Rave Mixtape 3000'.
